Overview of the UserTest Pro Interface
Once you log in, you will be directed to the Client Landing Page, which gives you easy access to all the essential tools and insights for managing your user tests. The interface has four main tabs:
Understanding Unmoderated Tests
Unmoderated tests on UserTest Pro offer a flexible and efficient way to gather real user feedback without needing real-time facilitation.
Ideal for UX researchers, product managers, designers, and marketers, this method allows you to create a structured test with predefined tasks that participants complete independently and at their own pace.
This approach is especially useful for testing usability, user flows, or visual design with a large number of participants in a short time frame. You can recruit users from the UserTest Pro panel or invite your own audience using the Bring Your Own Testers (BYOT) feature.
Because there is no need to coordinate schedules, unmoderated tests are cost-effective, scalable, and time-saving. You can track progress in real-time and analyze insights with built-in tools.
**Step-by-Step: Creating a New Unmoderated Test
Step 1: Get Started**
From the main Dashboard, click the **'Create New Test'** button to begin.

**Step 2: Select Test Type**
You will be asked what type of test you want to create. Select **'Unmoderated Test'** to proceed.

**Step 3: Select Device & Name Your Test**
1. **Select the Test Device:** Choose the device type that is most suitable for your test.
2. **Enter the Test Title:** Provide a clear and concise title that defines what is being tested. The name should summarize the test's objective to help testers understand its purpose.

💡
**Best Practice:** To prevent bias and ensure honest screener responses, avoid including the specific name of your app or product in the test title. Instead, describe the purpose in general terms (e.g., "Mobile onboarding flow") and mention the platform (e.g., mobile app, desktop site) without naming the product.
**Bad Practice:** "Test for instapay App - Onboarding Flow"
**Good Practice:** "Mobile App - Onboarding Flow Usability"

**Step 4: Describe Your Test**
Enter a **'Test Description'** that gives a brief overview of what the test involves and what you expect from the tester. A well-crafted description helps set the right expectations and improves the quality of responses.
**Step 5: Provide the URL**
Enter the **URL** for the web page, app, or prototype that testers will interact with during the test.
- **Link Types:**
    - **Web URL:** A live, public-facing website.
    - **Mobile App Links:** For published apps, provide the direct Google Play or App Store link.
    - **App (APK) Link:** Upload the APK file to a cloud service (e.g., Google Drive) and paste the shareable link.
    - **Prototypes (Figma, etc.):** Publish your prototype and ensure the link has 'Anyone with the link can view' permissions.

💡
**Important Guidelines:**
- Ensure the link is live and accessible.
- Do not use links that are password-protected unless you provide access credentials in the instructions.
- For APK or prototype files, always use a cloud storage link; do not upload files directly.

**Step 6: Add Questions & Tasks**
In this step, you will define the tasks for your testers. You have three flexible options for creating them:

1. **Build from Scratch:** Manually write and structure each task for maximum flexibility.
    - If Building from Scratch:
    - The first task is automatically created as a 'Redirect' task using the URL you provided earlier. This is the first link testers will open.
    - **Important:** Your first question must be a 'Redirect' type. You must customize the default prompt (e.g., 'Please visit xxyyzz.com') to include specific instructions, such as 'Explore the homepage and try locating the login button'.
2. **Auto-create with AI:** Let AI generate task suggestions based on your test title and goals, which you can then edit.
3. **Choose a Template:** Select from a library of ready-made templates tailored to common use cases.
- Click 'Add Task' to include more questions. You can choose from various types, including Multiple Choice, Descriptive, Rating, and Task-Based.
Once all tasks are added, you can rearrange, edit, duplicate, or delete them as needed before proceeding.
**Step 7: Define Target Audience**
Customize your tester demographics to find the right participants from the UserTest Pro panel.
1. **Age Range:** Enter the minimum and maximum age or use the 'Quick Select' options.
2. **Gender:** Choose the gender of participants.
3. **Location:** Select specific states and, optionally, narrow it down to cities.
4. **Responses Required:** Enter the number of participants you need. Each response consumes 1 credit.
5. **Buy Credits:** If needed, you can purchase additional credits.
6. **Save Audience:** You can save your audience settings for future use.
7. Click **'Next'** to proceed.

**Step 8: Add Screener Questions**
Click **'+Add Screener'** to filter for the most relevant testers. This ensures participants meet specific criteria.
- **Question Types:** Choose between 'Single Select' and 'Multiple Select'.
    - **Single Select:** Best when testers must choose only one valid answer (e.g., "What is your primary role at work?").
    - **Multiple Select:** Best when testers can select all answers that apply (e.g., "Which of the following tools have you used before?").
- **Answer Validation:** Control who qualifies by marking answers as:
    - **Approve:** The tester must choose this option to qualify.
    - **Reject:** Selecting this option disqualifies the tester.
    - **Ignore:** A neutral option that neither qualifies nor disqualifies.

💡
**Tips for Better Screening:**
- Avoid simple Yes/No questions.
- Keep screeners concise (ideally 2-3 questions) to avoid limiting your reach.
- Include a 'None of the Above' option to encourage honest responses.

**Step 9: Review & Publish**
This is the final checkpoint before your test goes live.
1. **Review Details:** Verify all configured details. Use the 'Edit' buttons to make adjustments if needed.
2. **Set Test Schedule:** Define how long the test will be available. The default is 3 days, but you can customize the start and end dates.
3. **Publish Test:** When everything looks good, click the **'Publish Test'** button. You will then be redirected to the 'Test Details' page to monitor responses.
